Converting a positive ground valve/tube car radio to negative ground ?25 Jul 2008 15:18 GMT22
No user switchable option. I can see its possible to rewire the vibrator so
you still get right polarity for the anode supplies. Heaters presumably
happy enough powered the other way round but how to change the biasing of
the valves ?

Low Voltage Cutoff of a handheld24 Jul 2008 12:26 GMT2
My Palm (Tungtent E2) seams bad ill. After some test I concluded that
the battery (Li-ion 3.7V 1020 mAh) is OK. It charges at 4.05V and
keeps voltage agains a load of 36 ohm. The trouble is that the Low
Voltage Cutoff circuit, that ought to act at about 3V, cuts in fact
Using a Solar Panel for 12V battery24 Jul 2008 08:41 GMT12
I have one of those 12 volt solar panels.  It was on a electronic
solar fence charger for farms.  The rest of the fence charger was
dead, but the solar panel works.  I want to connect it to a 12V car
battery.  Do I just connect it directly, or does there need to be a
Surface maount and valves/tubes.24 Jul 2008 08:06 GMT6
Just repaired a tube amp , problem unrelated to this.
But it seemed odd to me to have valves , in inverted
orientation , ie under a pcb with SM resistors on it.
Anyone foresee temperature cycling problems/ dislodged SMD in the future
How to reduce IR sensitivity24 Jul 2008 06:12 GMT14
I have an IR operated garbage can, trouble is the sensor is too
sensitive and it opens whenever you walk by. How can I reduce the
sensitivity of the IR receiver so I have to put my hand very close to
the sensor before the lid opens?

secondary of 800v

"non-captivating" captive nuts23 Jul 2008 11:17 GMT5
Twice in 2 weeks problems due to captive nuts dropping off and landing in
mains/ 450V supply areas of combo units.
These days , when coming across any captive nuts, I tend to wrap some
gaffer/duck/duct tape around and 2 pierce throughs, for the bolt - any other

nighttime hours the reception is great, but poor during daylight
hours.  Is this normal?
NEC ND-3520A  Part ID22 Jul 2008 07:18 GMT6
I need to know the writing on/value or exactly what the part is that is
located at IC301 (Right above that label). It's one of those mini 8 legged
pill bug IC's and I need to replace it possibly if I can find out what the
part is. I think I can make out a 2 and an HE but that is ...
Triac substitution question - Q2006L522 Jul 2008 00:09 GMT3
I'm trying to find a replacement for a triac, Q2006L5 which switches
lights and fan for a range hood.  MT1 is shorting to MT2 on the bad
part, especially when compared to a known, good triac (the fan
switches fine, light does not switch off).
toshiba CX35D60 broken - I turn it on and it turns itself right off21 Jul 2008 14:38 GMT1
Suddenly, yesterday, my TV broke.  It had worked great for years.
Here's the behavior:
I turn it on, by plugging it in.
The red light on the front of the TV goes on for a second, then it
Hitachi VCR Help20 Jul 2008 06:32 GMT3
I recently inherited a Hitachi VT-UX 627A and for the life of me can't
figure out how the cover can be removed so I can clean the heads.  I
removed the one visible screw that secures the lid but it won't budge
and I don't want to force it.  Called Hitachi and they wouldn't tell me!
