GE 9" under counter TV video in and out04 Jun 2008 18:19 GMT31
I have a GE 9" under the counter TV (Model 09GP108) which has video that
fades out after the set is on for while, then comes back, and repeats the
process periodically thereafter.  There is a NPN transistor labeled TP15
which appears to get hot enough to discolor the board ...
Desoldering wattage and tip size for tight multilayer vias04 Jun 2008 18:07 GMT12
This Saturday I replaced seven popped Nichicon electrolytics
in my iMac G5; it took me nearly five hours of intense battling
with too-tight hole sizes and high-thermal conductivity planes
but the job got done and the fix worked.  Has anyone worked

At least easy enough to get inside them, dissolve away the grease and deburr

"ghost" image on Hitachi LCD projector03 Jun 2008 01:45 GMT6
Does anyone know how to get into the service menu of a Hitachi CP-X430W? It has
a faint double image, apparently in the red channel, and the optical alignment
is correct. The cyan leading ghost image shows up on all screens including OSD
menus. I've seen similar but correctable ...

out front so I can switch between our XBox 360 and DVD recorder
without unplugging either.
Laptop LCD is only half lit after CCFL repair...02 Jun 2008 17:56 GMT2
I have an T43 Thinkpad whose LCD had been slowing dying (took on
pinkish hue until eventually the screen went dim)--I had diagnose
this as a problem with either the backlight or the inverter.
So, I replaced the CCFL (yes, I realize replacing the inverter woul
Basic question on rheostat02 Jun 2008 02:33 GMT6
A rheostat is in a simple series circuit with another component. The
input is connected to one end of the rheostat.  The output is taken
from the wiper terminal.  Some schematics show the remaining other end
of the rheostat left unconnected and others show the wiper and
Absurd, right?  The 30 foot phone line01 Jun 2008 23:16 GMT45
I realize this is the electronics.repair group and not a computer group, but
my question is really about wire.
Long story short:   I've had 1.5 Mbps DSL for years.  I found I could
upgrade to 6.0 Mbps service and did.  Earthlink sent me a new modem.  New
Anyone else finding faults due to normal handling ?01 Jun 2008 23:02 GMT10
Twice in 2 weeks, faults caused just by normal handling of kit, ie gripping
at the edge to pick up the kit and pushing in some vital control component.
Only an inch or so in from an edge so precisely where a thumb could go on
picking up relatively heavy kit.

Permanent magnets as coil cores?01 Jun 2008 19:35 GMT5
What are the benefits of using a permanent magnet for a coil core.
I recently came across a design for a switching power supply that used
magnets as cores for the inductor. I have never heard of such a thing,
except maybe in speakers.
Power supply01 Jun 2008 05:55 GMT2

Putting a Chrysler car radio in a Ford01 Jun 2008 04:31 GMT28
Believe it or not, about 30 years ago I worked in a car stereo
