wirewound resistors - how are they made? (and rheostats, same deal?)01 Jun 2008 00:53 GMT1
I guess nichrome wire wound around a ceramic core, then coated with
(maybe?) epoxy. my biggest question: I assumed the resistance wire was
originally UNcoated, bare wire, wrapped with each turn touching the next.

I have a pioneer sx-727 receiver, I'm the original owner (33 years).
Recently the radio stopped working.
Everything else works great.
FM, AM  no difference does NOT work.

In for intermittant loss of one channel but this query is about overheating.
There are 5/8 inch high feet on the base but unless the owners prop up on
blocks the whole base gets noticeably hot.
I will be replacing the mains fan as 10 years of much use but any other

I'm working on a pal's IBM PII computer which was extremely slow so I
tried to format it but now  I cannot boot from CD . I have check all
setup BIOS but nothing shows or states how to change the boot
sequence. Can anyone help pls.

Hope I can get a little help here and I'm stumped!
I've got a pulse going to a coil, Normally I use a 3w Metal film resistor to
collapse the field at a set rate and adjust the values of the resistor to
change the rate at which the field is dampened.

We just got this retired WA20 wavemeter donated to our lab from Los
Alamos.
I haven't cracked the case open yet but when I plug it in I hear a
revving noise which I'm guessing is a bad belt.

This Denon DRA-455 fails to turn-on when powered on.
The Red SBY-light and PanelDisplay donot illuminate.
Most likely it's SBY voltage generating circuit has developped some
problems as the kick-back diode across the MainPower Relay was found

Roadie dropped it off the stage , in flight case, worked fine for another
gig and then next time worked for 3 seconds.
Sheared metal internal braces and choke looks decidedly drunken, almost
sheared off, but all big lumps test cold ok so far.

This DENON has a separate Powersupply board which is totally
inoperative. Yes it does charge the Big Reservoir ELCO upto 350VDC but
no further SMPS action noted,

In for switch replacement but owner says he has , sometime back , got a
shock off the mains lead by touching the earth pin when just unplugged from
