Canon Powershot A550 A560 Repair Experience (website)16 Feb 2008 22:30 GMT1
I have now updated my website to include the experience of repairing a
digital camera that I'd mentioned earlier in this forum. It's more
sort of mechanical work than electronics repair (apart from
desoldering four or five soldering joints), but I couldn't find a

Sharp 28JW-73H - Intermittent Flicker16 Feb 2008 13:27 GMT2
I'm trying to research a fault a friend's TV has. A picture paints a
thousand words, so two shots follow this brief description.

Hints for finding replacement buttons?16 Feb 2008 09:55 GMT11
I deal with a number of vintage devices, refurbishing and reselling
them. One of the annoyances I have is dealing with missing or broken
buttons (and knobs, dials, etc.). As silly as it may seem, something
like a missing button cap, that has no functional effect on the device,

LED Light Emitters: Failure Mode?16 Feb 2008 05:57 GMT18
Do LED lights fail completely or gradually?
i.e are they all-or-nothing?
I've got a nice little LED flashlight that, one day, started
getting dim.

LCD Monitors- how to choose ?15 Feb 2008 17:34 GMT21
LCD is replacing CRT. This happens in my company also.
My company has been buying LCD monitors to replace the CRT monitors,
in stages. When old CRT dies, we replace it with an LCD. No problem
there.
Prob with CRT Replacement15 Feb 2008 14:40 GMT13
OK, I have 2 Toshiba 9" TV/DVDs. One (brand new, ebay, $20)had a gassed
CRT, so I took the tube out of the other one (ebay, $1, scratched up
case) which worked perfectly. The first one works fine with the replaced
tube. Now 1 1/2 years later, I buy a "new" CRT, (ebay) same part#, ...

Sharp 26" TV/SST 37VF010.14 Feb 2008 17:41 GMT6
A little OT as I'm not actually trying to repair this set, rather draw on
the experience of others who've had experience with similar Sharp sets to
identify the SST 37VF010 chip.
The chip had a paper label stuck on it suggesting factory
dc power on-off with single pole momentary switch14 Feb 2008 12:03 GMT9
The subject tells the goal.  Here is the rest of the story.  There is
no micro available.  It is preferred to use a dual comparator such as
393 as one of those is already part of the design and having two of
one device is preferable to one of these and one of those.
RFID tags...How do they work?14 Feb 2008 05:05 GMT15
I am a senior industrial design major and I am have been asked to give
a brief presentation on RFID tags and how they work.  I understand the
general concept but I am not sure the specific technical aspects of
the system.  I was wondering if someone could explain the basic
