| Ceramic disc capacitors | 08 Dec 2007 16:36 GMT | 2 |
I've recently had a few cases of ceramic discs - usually 0.1µF used for HF smoothing - failing short circuit. They've been generic wax covered beige coloured types. Any better replacement - or particular make to go for?

| CD-player erratic with CD-Rs | 08 Dec 2007 16:27 GMT | 6 |
This unit, TEAC PD-D850, is having difficulties playing audio CD-Rs. Not every CD-R has problems, only some of them and the problem consists in not locking into the tracks. The strange thing is that the CD-Rs are all of the same brand, same

My shortwave radio receiver's speaker is dead (Hallicrafters Model S-38). I can't find an exact physical match to it in the original 16 ohm impedance but can match it with a 8 ohm one that has the same mounting pattern.

I have a Montgomery Ward model GEN 12394 14" color TV made during August 1983. Recently, it intermittently fails to stay tuned to the selected cable channel. During this intermittence, it appears to switch to either channel 2 or 3 regardless of the selected channel,

| Slightly OT ... | 08 Dec 2007 03:22 GMT | 33 |
We see a lot of stuff on here from time to time, about crappy Chinese goods. Well, a couple of days ago, my usual office supplier sent me one of their regular e-mail fliers, on which was a high-back padded leather swivel chair with gas lift, castors, arms, rocker action and so on ...

| Color bleeding on 19" Toshiba TV | 07 Dec 2007 21:28 GMT | 11 |
I have a transistorized Toshiba 19" color TV that I purchased in 1984. It has worked quite well over the years, but recently has been exhibiting a symptom which I would describe as a horizontal "bleeding" of color under certain conditions.

| Bob Parker ESR Meter being discontinued at DSE? | 07 Dec 2007 19:22 GMT | 1 |
At AU$24.50 including GST, it looks like a closeout price. Unfortunately for most of the world, you have to purchase it from existing stock at one of a very small number of Dick Smith Electronics stores in Australia.
