Digital Cable "Box" Service Mode Menu31 May 2007 21:58 GMT2
Recently I had trouble with my digital cable "box" (Motorola from Comcast)
and a service man came.  Unfortunately, I didn't see everything he did, but
when I came in the room,  he had a service mode menu display on the
TV.   I am familiar with service mode menus in televisions ...

Bosch SHX56B06UC dishwasher won't drain31 May 2007 19:12 GMT7
One month ago, I bought a house with a Bosch SHX56B06UC dishwasher.  I'm
guessing it's 5 or so years old, though I can't find a manufacturing date on
it.  Machine ran fine at 1st, now the pump will not drain the machine.  It
makes noises that sound as though the pump is running, ...
More on lead-free junk solder31 May 2007 18:39 GMT98
A 200W combo, UK made 2002, with one solder joint to a small on-end
electrolytic failed
so could be just due to vibration/resonance.
But it is on a board with obvious conical solder joints so perhaps the most

Where there is a different footprint for a replacement item and you have to

I need to put a lanyard on a small remote control.  It will get lost

Television Strange Picture behaviour31 May 2007 13:31 GMT1
When switched on the television picture drains colour from the edges and
then 'implodes' in on itself in about a second. Then it turns itself off and
a couple of seconds turns itself on again.  It then continually repeats this
cycle. Picture>draining edges>implosion>turns off and ...

While dumpster diving I found a 2.1 speaker set.  Static in the left

known good one, same thing.

Using DMM on Possibly Charged Caps31 May 2007 05:47 GMT12
I have several DMMs, including a Fluke 77.  Let's say I'm testing a
high voltage, possibly charged cap such as a motor run capacitor.  Is
it safe to use the DC voltage measurement function to see if the cap
has been safely discharged?  What about on cheaper DMMs, is this

Is anyone familiar with these drives ? I replaced one with exactly the
same drive but now the machine won't work. I have a feeling these
drives are somehow "locked" to the motherboard. Does anyone know the
exact procedure to solve any software issues associated with DVD drive
