Completely dead laptop, any ideas?30 Nov 2006 21:46 GMT11
A friend asked me to look at his laptop (I have 15+ experience in
assembling computers and home made repairs - but mostly desktops).
The laptop died during a night, it was ok in the evening and completely
dead the next morning. It's 15 months old HP Pavilion.
GE oven failure30 Nov 2006 18:52 GMT4
I have an old GE range.  Model # J BP26 0w2A.  It came with the hous
when I bought it 16 years ago.  Last year I replaced the bottom heatin
element.  This saturday I replaced the broiler element.  After that th
oven doesn't heat at all.  I suspect it is the temperature control.
12v 300ma transformers to power pc case fans?30 Nov 2006 16:36 GMT13
I have a few old transformers that output 12volts at 300milliamps.
I was wondering if it was all that important to use resistors to get
the current within the stated specs for a pc case fan I wanted to try
to run on it.
Cleaning circuit boards (Smoke Machine Fluid)30 Nov 2006 15:48 GMT10
I'm doing scheduled maintenance on a number of PA system amplifiers
located in a night club.
Normally these machines get a clean with compressed air and optional
paintbrush for stubborn fur balls.

My son just replaced the LCD in his sony laptop and now have a problem

Can a coax connection be partially damaged? Some stations suddenly not coming in on HDTV on coax in.30 Nov 2006 01:11 GMT8
An older friend asked me to hook up their DVD player to their HDTV via the
component cables. Yes, not complex but again, they're older and somewhat
technophobic.
I got the DVD hooked up to HD1 and in fact it plays the DVD when HD1 is
Hybrid bi-phase audio amps29 Nov 2006 23:02 GMT2
I have a Pansonic stereo system with separate high and low speaker
terminals.  There is only one stereo power amp ... thus it is not a true
bi-phase arrangement.  I can't find the answer to how the hybrids work, so I
am posting my guess here.
Replacement speaker cones29 Nov 2006 20:21 GMT5
Say for 12, 15 or 18 inch ones - does anyone produce just the cone with
cylindrical back extension with coil for known or standard makes. ?
Where the original has burnt threw the cylindrical former due to DC fault so
could not try rewinding on the original. Seems a shame to chuck ...
Fan in microwave oven going out29 Nov 2006 11:25 GMT17
Should I be concerned?  What is this fan's job?  Is it to keep the oven
ventilated of food vapors or to cool the magnetron?  If the latter then I
need to replace it asap.
Thanks,
