I was planning on getting into electronics as a hobby seriously, and I
read that they have or will ban lead solder. Is it already illegal? Is
traditional lead/tin/rosin solder still available to buy? Do we really
need such a ban? I think I should stock up on the traditional solder ...

I'm still not sure what to measure for voltages in this flat panel monitor
that goes dim about 2 seconds after I power it up. It's so dim, you need to
look at it very close in the dark to see a faint picture.

I have a 50 inch Plasma and a 32 inch LCD TV that have a horizontal
