I've got three non-working Vivitar 560D flashes that I want to try to repair.. What are the most likely components to fail (it looks like there're at least 6 capcitors in it). Is it possible to test components in-circuit without removing them (I generally thought it not)?

| Troubleshooting remote in Yamaha amp | 03 Mar 2004 05:33 GMT | 3 |
I'm trying to find out why the remote receiver in my Yamaha AVC-50 doesn't work. So far, the photodiode seems to work good when tested separately. From there, I need the schematic. Sams does not list it. Yamaha has been silent to my requests for service data so far. Does ...

| ESR Meter Advice | 02 Mar 2004 21:35 GMT | 23 |
I'm still getting into electronic repairs. I'm learning, but the lack of formal instruction makes things a little bumpy sometimes. Anyways, I've decided that it's time to buck up for an ESR meter. Casually searching, I've found the two following URLs:

| CTC177 HV arcs | 02 Mar 2004 21:34 GMT | 1 |
I inherited a dead GE 31GT657 (CTC177CC) that someone said died while running. The HOT was shorted. I replaced the transistor and after some initial checks, powered the set up with lightbulbs in series with the AC line. It ran for about half an hour, snapped a few times and ...

This amp is 12 or 13 years old. I have noticed that the highs and midrange are starting to sound a bit scratchy. I thought it was the speakers at first, but I tried another amp source they sound good. Is it time for me to get a new amp? Or does this sound like something

| Sony CRT Magnetism SCC-L04MM-A IBM P202/6558-43N | 02 Mar 2004 13:55 GMT | 2 |
Hi.. I hope I'll get some comments from someone that's encountered this problem. This CRT appears to have some strong magnetism in it, centered at the top. Other than that, I suppose it could possibly be due to shock damage, because
