HP8443A Tracking Generator Counter29 Mar 2006 21:54 GMT2
I would very much like to hear from anyone who has had any
experience in repairing the HP8443A as I'm looking for a few
pointers, source of spares, etc. I have one in good condition
except for a fault in the ALC/Video Amp (A8) - possibly either the
Systron Donner item for Motorola29 Mar 2006 15:52 GMT4
I'm looking for the operator as well as and in particular - Service Manual -

says model #SLN6418A 75. On the inside at the ...
S: Schematic/manual for Heath AV-3 Audio VTVM28 Mar 2006 18:38 GMT2
I'm looking for the schematic and/or manual of a Heath AV-3 Audio VTVM.
Preferably PDF.
(Yes I know, there are not _that_ many parts inside, but I prefer to have
the original schematic instead of reverse-engineering it ;-)
Probing terminal strips28 Mar 2006 00:40 GMT5
Whether with scope probe or DMM sticks, I have trouble getting a reliable
connection to terminal strips. With a crimp terminal stuffed under a
round-head screw, and shrink covering the terminal's shank, there's not much
to clip onto, especially with an alligator clip.
Big soldering irons don't run hotter?26 Mar 2006 19:31 GMT33
I had always lived in the belief that a 15W soldering iron ran cooler
than a 35W iron but recently I read something which said they both
run at the same temp.
Presumably the real difference is the speed at which the iron reheats

Scope bandwidth limitation - amp or crt?23 Mar 2006 22:51 GMT25
Just curious, in cheap analog scopes (a mid-90's vintage 20 mhz unit
labeled by JDR micro) what is the main source of bandwidth restriction
- the vertical amplifier or the crt itself?
If one built a better amp, one presumably able to slew the capacitance
Homebrew SMT rework tool (hot air pencil)22 Mar 2006 17:50 GMT1
There are a number of examples of homemade SMT rework tools
on the Web but I didn't find one that met our cost and
performance requirements so I cooked up this one and hope
that its design can be useful to hobbyists and cost-
Vibration testing22 Mar 2006 06:31 GMT1
Does anyone know what are the standards for environment testing for electronics equipment?
In particular we want to test a controller box for use in a bus.
Australian standards would be most preferred.
Repairing a TV remote control - new LED22 Mar 2006 06:13 GMT35
Apart from cleaning my TV remote control (see other thread) I
would like to put in a more powerful infrared LED
The remote control is about 10 to 15 years old.  The spec is
below.  Note that I am in the UK.
Technique:  wire preparation for a terminal block21 Mar 2006 22:47 GMT12
Back to basics here guys.
I am referring to a terminal strip like this.

It may be 3 amp or 5 amp or something similar to that sort of low

Global Specialties 6000 frequency counter21 Mar 2006 15:01 GMT3
My Global Specialties 6000 frequency counter counter died on me, it
powers up, but does not count.
I wonder if anyone has a manual/schematics and could guide me through
the repair. I looked around and found no documentation available.
