LED to power a DC motor25 Mar 2009 02:55 GMT4
I am designing a circuit. It consists of two parts, the output of the
first part is an LED signal, which is ON/OFF based on certain
conditions. I require a DC motor to be powered on when the LED is in
ON state. Could you please suggest a suitable circuit for the same?
GreenPower won't be so green any more?24 Mar 2009 16:15 GMT11
For those, like me, currently paying a premium for 100% Green Power in some
form, this is depressing news:

vain-choice-20090309-8sxz.html

So I'll now be paying FOR big business, with no additonal gain ...
88R 12-16V Thermistors24 Mar 2009 15:34 GMT16
The temperature gauge in the NB Fairlane has been over-reading.
After confirming it was not overheating. checking the wiring,
improving ground connection and changing the sender I found that
it was the gauge (i.e. when the sender read 70 ohm the gauge was
California audio labs CL-2024 Mar 2009 13:06 GMT2

Readily available energy efficient lighting24 Mar 2009 05:46 GMT3
I'm looking at lighting a workshop with energy efficient lighting
that will give good colour rendition and so far the options that
shape up best are T5 fluorescents or white LEDs.
The fluoros are looking to be best value for money as they are
Ultra simple project wanted to join two headsets and TV23 Mar 2009 13:58 GMT3
G'day Folks,
I'm looking for a cheap off-the-shelf or simple build-it-myself device
that will:
* Allow me to plug in two headsets (as in there's a mic and headphones)
Deep cycle batteries23 Mar 2009 08:43 GMT30
I once had an electric outboard motor for a canoe, and was told that it
needed a deep-cycle battery, that was designed to be fully discharged and
then re-charged. In this it differed from a car battery, which is meant to
be kept near full charge all the time. I can see the logic ...
Fake Caps23 Mar 2009 07:03 GMT36
Speaking of fake cache SRAM in another post reminded me of this fake
electrolytic cap. Some might get a laugh out of it:

One has to wonder though if the fakers got faked? What's inside the Rubycon

Radio Shack?21 Mar 2009 17:34 GMT35
I can't believe the looks I get lately when I want an electronic part
from Radio Shack. A few weeks ago I wanted a prox switch. The counter on
my tread mill failed. The spinning magnet on the pulley swithes the prox
switch to step the counter and timer. I think they thought I was
Clamp metesr and DC current20 Mar 2009 12:40 GMT5
Can clamp meters measure DC current using the clamp(as round a car battery
lead)?  If so, how do they work? Surely they need a varying current, as in
AC?
NiMH battery question19 Mar 2009 22:58 GMT3
I recently purchased charger which came with  a set of Nickel Metal
Hydride AA batteries.  I notice the batteries are rated at 1.2 volts,
whereas regular alkaline batteries are 1.5 volts.
Why the difference in voltage?  And will some devices have inferior
another stupid capactior question18 Mar 2009 15:46 GMT15
I would like to know in common sense terms what the hell a capacitor
does.   is this accurate?:
a flaky low voltage charge comes through a wire and hits a capacitor,
the capacitor will accept the charge and "charge up", when a certain
