Chokes wound in parallel on same core16 Jul 2006 16:07 GMT2
I saw some chokes that had three wires bound togetehr at the ends (parallel) and wound five times around a toroidal core.  Why would they do that?  Doesn't that reduce the inductance?  Why not just use one wire?

What kind of fuse is this???16 Jul 2006 14:30 GMT3
At least I think it is a fuse... it looks exactly like a fuse but instead of a glass tube it is a white solid material.  I am afraid to break it open because it might have something toxic inside.  I don't need it.  Is it safe to discard in the trashbin?

Audio output transformer location16 Jul 2006 14:27 GMT2
Is it better to mount the transformer on the printed wiring board or the speaker frame itself?  I think the speaker is a better spot b/c it makes the board cheaper (less holes, less space) but will it adversely affect accoustics?  I don't notice a difference
What the heck does CR mean?16 Jul 2006 13:51 GMT1
WHy is a bridge rectifier labeled as CR?  I always use BR on my designs.  B as in bridge, R as in rectifier.  Hey I'm a regular einstein, but how does CR relate to a doide?  They could have used CR instead of X for CRystal.  I think that would be better, so I use that in my ...
Microwave ovens and cellphones16 Jul 2006 13:12 GMT1
I think microwave ovens operate at something like 3 gigacycles per second, and phones are something like 2.4.  Well if a microwave frequency can make your eyes explode then these cell phones can't be all that good for us either
It's still Kilocycles and Megacycles, not Hertz!16 Jul 2006 13:00 GMT2
Who cares what a bunch of Europeans say things should be names?  I think Kilocycles per second is much better sounding than Kilohertz.  It also is more descriptive as well

directly to an LED, the second one is fed through 6 hex inverters to
