60 Minute Soldering Iron Timer11 Apr 2006 08:35 GMT3
I was talking about this 50 volt soldering iron timer project
September/October 2005 and now have four test prototypes installed in
facilities belonging to a "large Australian telecommunications firm". Two
have relays doing the switching and two use a power MOSFET and the idea is ...

Current sensing?10 Apr 2006 12:55 GMT8
I need to sense the operation of a couple of pumps in the 1 to 2kW range.
Measuring the actual current would be nice, but just knowing they're
operating would be enough. I'd rather not use shunts - I think there's
enough current to be able to see what's going on by attaching ...

Schottky diodes and not SiGe?
DSE Set Top Box: G765910 Apr 2006 05:30 GMT5
Hi to my pals here,
In October 2005 I bought myself a DSE  G7659  STB.
It worked like a charm for 17 months or so. Then, it began to misbehave just
as the Commonwealth Games was being broadcast from Melbourne  -   first just
changing from 1.5V battery to 9V battery10 Apr 2006 00:11 GMT18
I have a very simple circuit that I run an electric guitar signal
through and I'm thinking of modifying it from a 1.5 V battery to a 9V
battery.  What modifications do I need to do to the circuit? (I am
obviously a beginner).
Diode Questions09 Apr 2006 21:29 GMT6
I am working on a small electronics project that needs a few 2N388
geranium diodes.  The only problem is that they are hard to find and
expensive.  I figured I would give another NPN diode a try but I'm not
really sure what to look for.  Can I just look for a close match based

signal(around 50-100Hz).  I have got two RF modules which are 315Mhz radio
transmitter and recevicer in 8kbps data rate. Also HT12E(encoder) and HT12D
(decoder) have been used as well.
Birko soldering iron age?09 Apr 2006 07:32 GMT5
I recently 'fell heir' to a Birko soldering iron (80W), Birko Cat. no
'D1'. Anyone got any idea how old it is? Following replacement of the
cord and a bit of a cleanup it works really well.
I queried Birko, but they say 'all records have been lost'.
Radio control Tx details08 Apr 2006 19:13 GMT4
Anyone know whether the pots in the Tx are used in "variable voltage
out" form or "variable resistance" form to control the channels? I
presume, due to 3 wire connection that its the former but id be pleased
if someone could confirm? Im looking at hacking one and applying

Gas-main broadband07 Apr 2006 22:11 GMT8
I recently saw that a firm proposes using existing natural-gas piping to
deliver broadband to homes.  I think that's not a new idea - and I
recall a story from Popular Electronics or Electronics Illustrated,
circa 1957-1960, that showed an antenna farm atop a hill near Port
