Too many amps?31 Jan 2006 23:37 GMT3
I am a total electronics novice so hopefully someone can help -
My Network router failed, and it turned out to be a burnt out power
transformer. The transformer in question was 12v 1.25a - I have been given a
replacement that is 12v 1.5a and it seems to work (I am using it right ...

this.
Items involved are a Sola 305 UPS (manual and specs here

On-board RS232 between devices31 Jan 2006 00:57 GMT8
I presume that, with RS232, it's possible that a receiving device may miss
the first byte or two of data while trying to synch with the Tx?
I mean, if no handshaking is used, how can the receiving device tell the
start and stop bits from the character bits, if it joins the dataflow
Sony Magic Gate Memory Cards30 Jan 2006 22:33 GMT13
I hope you can help here.  I've just started working for a new employer and
one of the first projects I have is to develop and interface/reader for
Sony's memory cards.  CF and SD cards, IDE and SCSI I've done before and the
information was pretty much readily available.  In this ...
Speakers - 6 ohm vs. 8 ohm?30 Jan 2006 21:31 GMT7
I've ordered a plasma screen and noticed that the specs for the
external stereo speakers are 8 watts @ 6 ohm.
I don't intend to connect it up to a home theatre system, just attach
a couple of reasonable quality bookself speakers, which are 8 ohm.

Autoranging rectifier30 Jan 2006 14:35 GMT3
I am looking for an autoranging front-end circuit to convert a
universal AC input ( 90-265VAC ) to an unregulated DC voltage ( in the
range of 220-400VDC ) to power some DC supplies at 90 Watts.
It seems that such a front-end should operate as a doubler/rectifier in
48v DC power LED (on indicator)30 Jan 2006 12:51 GMT7
I took a chance and used a 1/2W 2K resistor with an LED to indicate 48V
on.  That resistor cooks up real nice.  Any recommendations on a safe
way to do this?
thanks,
Motherboard caps gone pop ...30 Jan 2006 11:26 GMT10
pretty standard issue deal, few capacitors on a motherboard have rabies and
are frothing at the caps and the thing no longer works. Assuming no damage
has been done to surrounding/other components, i figure it will work if
replaced. However, i don't have a regular account with ...
Lead Acid battery charging question30 Jan 2006 11:23 GMT10

charger, that I plan to install on the family's holiday shack that has
no mains power.
The charge regulator that comes with the kit regulates for charging a
Lens cleaners for audio CD. Any good?30 Jan 2006 04:31 GMT13
My Rotel audio CD player has started to skip a little bit of the music
occasionally. It is usually at the same place on the disc each time.
It skips on some brand-new discs as well as on some old disks. Those same
discs do not skip when played on another, identical, Rotel player.
Audio Out from TV. Dolby?30 Jan 2006 01:26 GMT5
I have a Sharp TV, model SX80J9. It was bought in 2000.
It has four inputs, TV, AV1, AV2, AV3.
AV1 is used for the VCR and AV2 is used for the DVD.
At the back of the set there is provision for stereo Audio Out.
BestPair II Voltage Divider Resistor Pair Picker Software30 Jan 2006 00:19 GMT12
There are 480,000 different combinations of standard 1% resistor values. If
you need 2.75 volts from a 5.00 volt reference, which of those 480,000 pairs
will give you the closest result?
For this example there are 9 resistor pairs that will get you to within
