I have a coiled chime out of an old clock. Using electronics and a
solenoid I want to have the chime strike twelve times at midday and six
chimes at six p.m. No chimes at any other times. Preferably battery
powered. And no clock face.

I figured that an SMPS controller IC receives power from one of the
windings on the transformer core. The controller then uses PWM to
switch the primary winding.
But then how does the controller IC receive a kick startup power in the

Where in metro Atlanta (preferably Southside) can you buy a type J
thermocouple over the counter?  Looking for something with a screw tab
or adhesive mount for use on an espresso machine boiler.

I have made a small LED light consisting of 2 AAA batteries, a switch,
resistor and an LED.
Does anyone know what will happen if this is frequently splashed or even
submerged in salt water?
