Looking around the 'net, it seems that it is ridiculously expensive and difficult to do home-automation in Australia. As we use 240v/50Hz rather than 110v/60Hz, we can't the US stuff .. which is a pity as it is *much* cheaper.

I made a jacob's ladder with a 2 MOT stack, inductive ballasted to 40 mh shorted, bare 4ga wire electrodes, 13.9 Mohm Gabriel electrode (yeah, I know that's too much). If you were wondering, I wear sunglasses and I have some experience, though not with rising arcs.

I have been trying to build an Infrared strobe. I have been able to make the diodes flash off and on using a 555 timer circuit. But I can not make them strobe....I'm missing something here ???? What do I need to do to make the IR diodes STROBE BRIGHTLY not just turn off

G'Day All I am using some of the chinese DVM's in my vehicle to monitor a solar setup, (volts and amps). However they cannot be used powered directly from the vehicle batteries etc.
