I've always wondered why laptop AC adaptors are so bulky. I mean
laptops are meant to be mobile and compact and light right? Anyhow, I
came across this article where this guy made a hack to a tiny AC
adaptor an successfully used it for his 16V laptop.

Hi, the timer on my heating hast stopped running, its a mechanical
driven by a small motor conected to 230Vac, the problem is a capacitor
(the only other component) that is in series with the motor. I shorted
the cap with a multimeter and the motor started running again.

This is my own laser fax machine. I got it s/h and no user manual. Now it
complains about "invalid gauge". According to display, one should change
gauge when changing the toner. What is that gauge? I can not find one!

I'm up to my tricks of winding 0.1 ohm resistors from some fine copper
wire and a resistor to wind it on.  But I'm having trouble with the
wire, in more ways than one.
I've got a bobbin of realllly fine wire, I think the bobbin was from an

(a) Imagine an 5-100kg (we do not know exact weight) object is hanged with a
piece of string/rope/wire and swings randomly.
(b) We do not have access to either end of this string.
(c) How can we measure, electronically,em the stress/tension on the string?
