Does a device like this exist?09 Feb 2005 12:16 GMT6
I'm looking for a device that can, in essesence, make lights brighten
or dim by remote control. Also, the device would be able to shut
electronic objects on and off, all by remote control. The key point
being there would be nothing in the targeted electronic machinery that

Tunable AM receiver08 Feb 2005 21:58 GMT3
I need to try and build a tunable AM receiver for a project I'm doing.
Ideally I want it to span from about 30MHz to 150MHz. I'd also like it
to be digitally tunable. I read some article about how to do it with
an old tuner module from a VCR, but can't seem to find the relevant

Current required for car radio/cd non-switchable lead?08 Feb 2005 21:38 GMT3
Doesn't anyone know the approximate power or current requirement for the
non-switchable 12VDC lean on a car radio/cd?  This is the one that maintains
the memory for station settings, the time, etc.
I'm installing a car radio/cd in my house and will supply it with 12VDC from
video time and date stamper08 Feb 2005 15:40 GMT1
Someone asked me if I knew of a video time and date stamper.
Basically it is a matchbox (he reckons) that fits in the lead between
a bullet camera and the vcr (digital in this case) and inserts a time
and date stamp on to the picture.  Anyone heard of such a thing?  I've
CCD-tr75e camcorder08 Feb 2005 08:30 GMT5
I could do with the user manual for this camcorder, perhaps in pdf format.
It will stop me from guessing on how to use the many function controls.
I would like to return the favour with other schems I might have.
Thank you

Source for cheap 2.8V Halogen torch globes?08 Feb 2005 07:24 GMT7
I'm after a source for low cost 2.8V (2 x D cell) halogen torch globes,
anyone know of any cheap source for these?
The ones I can find (eg, genuine Energizer replacement) are in the
order of $10 a go, and I need quite a few so am looking for a cheaper
ORCAD Pspice (student version)08 Feb 2005 06:45 GMT7
I just spent  several hours trying to figure out ORCAD student pspice
circuit simulation ware.  There's no tutorial, there's no "view from 30000
feet" explanation as to how all 8 sub-applications interact with each other,
you can't just create a file representing a circuit, you ...

Free iPods07 Feb 2005 18:33 GMT2
These guys are giving free iPods away for just signing up for some
promotional stuff. (Ever heard of a loss-leader?) I need 5 people to go
to the site using my referrer link and sign up for something. If you do
the same you get a free iPod. It was talked about in Wired magazine
PIC questions07 Feb 2005 13:36 GMT13
I'm switching over to PICs from Basic Stamps due speed, capacity, and
price reasons.  I've already purchased a semi-universal programmer, and
am looking a couple good PICs to start with.  I was thinking about a
lower end PIC for simple projects, and a mid-range PIC for more
European appliances in N.A.07 Feb 2005 11:30 GMT9
I'm trying to determine if it is possible to import a European
induction cooktop (hob in U.K. terminology) to the U.S. The main
difficulty appears to be the 50Hz/60Hz difference. Not surprisingly,
the manufacturers say it won't work, but I don't know if that is the
