Does the earth "complete the circuit" to become ground?11 Dec 2004 06:33 GMT30
Something I've never quite had a model for understanding about: Why does
electricity want to flow to the earth-ground?  Is it because the generator
producing it somehow is involved with the earth such that touching the earth
completes the circuit?

Transformer losses question10 Dec 2004 13:05 GMT1
This is a "sort of" homework question, but I think it's valid to ask.
I did an experiment with the objective of modelling transformer losses.
Naturally one of the tests performed was the open circuit test, so that we
can determine core losses (Rc) and magnetizing inductance (Xm).

At a computer fair a couple of weeks ago, I spotted this flying saucer
thingy. About 200mm in diameter, with a blade in the centre and a
counter-rotating shell, which also provides lift. Very simple and very
impressive. All remote controlled, with a rechargeable battery in the

Driving a DS1393 from a PIC or AVR10 Dec 2004 00:22 GMT4
Has anyone tried talking to a DS1393 or similar 3-wire RTC from either
a PIC or AVR (or similar) - these RTCs are not SPI - they have a
bi-directional I/O pin.
Thanks,
Computer collector wanted08 Dec 2004 22:38 GMT10
Anyone want a really early office "computer"?
It's a Burroughs L6000, and was used for accounting.
Reportedly a goer - has manuals, paper tape (no disk drives) and is
fairly big and heavy - desk size. Even has some paper ready to print on.
