Remote control for really, really old TV27 Apr 2004 06:28 GMT7
Does anyone know if there are units you can buy that will allow you to
control the power and volume of a very old tv?
I remember old cable boxes could do this but have never seen a stand
alone product that could.

What's with the new DVD power switches?26 Apr 2004 22:42 GMT2
I just bought an DVD player and the power switch has a light which always seems
to be on.  Is this a new style or is there something wrong with the device?
It's an Advent DVD2200.

Canon Scanner cold cathode light replacement.26 Apr 2004 22:29 GMT9
I've got a Canon D660U flat bed scanner. The cold cathode light has
dimmed and the scanner is reporting an error along the lines of
needing more warm up time. Tried another PC - same problem. DC supply
to scanner from wall is OK when plugged in.

I have a Panasonic microwave, model NN-5454B (white one that says

Hot Tub arching26 Apr 2004 04:01 GMT9
I have a hot tub control that switches the heater element on and off to set
the water temperature.
The thermostat has 20 amp contacts, that tend to burn out.  I replaced the
thermostat , then installed a slave mercury relay (contact rating 25A at 240

I'm looking for a "Caller ID Box" to put in the phone line going to our

9V battery grounding issues25 Apr 2004 23:55 GMT5
I am using a 9V battery to power 6 LM324s (Quad Op-Amps), which
requires a ground connection, not a -VCC. When I tested the circuit
using an electronics kit to provide the voltage, it works fine, but
when I replace the electronics kit voltage with the positive and
Faint L.C.D. Display??25 Apr 2004 20:02 GMT3
Before I start, I have tried a Google search, and no luck.
I have a digital, hand-held tachometer for checking the r.p.m.s of
"stuff". I can read the display, but certain bars of the display are
very faint and I must play with the angle to see the numbers.
It seems my research has already been done.....25 Apr 2004 08:17 GMT4
Geezus Phil Allison, I was expecting this to be a little harder. But it
seems that you've already pissed a few people off, huh?
Well, I'm gonna enjoy this.......
And I suspect there will be a few people who will not cry over your torture.
Dryer plug for our British treadmill???25 Apr 2004 07:23 GMT3
Our British treadmill is a juicy 5' from our (U.S.) 220V dryer outlet,
and since that treadmill has now blown the third fuse (in as many
weeks) on our specially-bought transformer (though I reckon the fault
lies more with house voltage spikes), I am wondering....
