PAT testing & mains adaptors29 Mar 2009 17:14 GMT4
For mains adaptors with LV DC outputs, is a visual/operation inspection all
that is needed to satisfy PAT testing requirements?
Thanks
Transformer bunding question?28 Mar 2009 19:43 GMT6
Under UK rules & regs, is there a requirement to bund fluid filled
transformers to contain any insulating fluid leakage? This will be a new
transformer installation and the fluid will be Midel. There are other
transformers on site and these are not bunded.
multimeters and diode check26 Mar 2009 03:09 GMT1
I had an older Fluke, I think it was a 77, that had a handy function, an
audible diode check. It would beep once for a good junction, and emit a
continuous solid tone with a short while showing the forward drop on the
display. I found this very handy as a quick go/no-go test to ...
Home made generator?25 Mar 2009 16:10 GMT14
I don't know as much as i'd like about electrics, but i thought someone here
might be able to help.
Here's the thing...I need a generator. New, they're around £100 for a 750W,
but I've got an old 3.5 bhp engine which, i imagine is half of what the
cap to lower demand24 Mar 2009 17:40 GMT7
Trying to find info about adding capacitors to 25hp 240v  3 phase ac
motor single speed that runs a cat pump at my car wash? There seems to
be commercial units but they hook up to main line and as I have two
25hp motors that start together at times this doesn't seem
continuous online dual conversion UPS23 Mar 2009 00:49 GMT28
While reading some technical descriptions of specific UPS models, including
user manuals, I have found that many describe a low voltage level at which
they "switch" or "transfer" from utility power to battery power.
For this kind of UPS, where even the utility power is always ...
Transistor as Diode22 Mar 2009 13:43 GMT3
So I was reviewing an old schematic for an opamp circuit that was built
before the prevalent IC's (circa 1965).  On the input, to protect from
over-ranging there were two bipolar junction transistors, wired directly
across the non-inverting and inverting input to the amplifier ...

I use a Pentium quad HP with 3 gigs of ram.  This is a new system and all

another 3 hours with this piece of sh.t with programs acting up, not closing
properly, printer having to be set to XPS to get ...

Legal to sell DC-DC Converter *Kits*?19 Mar 2009 01:20 GMT36
Is it legal to sell a kit that includes all of the parts,
instructions, and diagrams so someone could build there own DC-DC
Converter kit? I believe it requires certifications (e.g., UL) to make
& sell DC-DC Converters, so someone suggested selling kits until I
resistance of brass strip18 Mar 2009 21:33 GMT34
I want to make a battery tester.  I am in the UK.
I'll use a fixed metal sheet which I will press the positive stud of a
cell on.  (A meter probe will go to the other end.)
(1) I tried an aluminium sheet for the metal but it didn't make good
Plea for sense to prevail on this group18 Mar 2009 21:31 GMT10
This used to be a really good group. It'd be nice to get it back to
the way it was. At home I have generated a kill file as I use a proper
news reader and can thus filter out the 'noise'...but at work I have
to use Google Groups as that is all the IT dept. will allow. To all
