Incandescent light bulbs - banned vs. non-lighting uses29 Dec 2007 03:13 GMT3
Perhaps the funny case is the EZ-Bake oven, a toy that has been out for
decades.  It uses a light bulb as a heat source.  It doesn't bake very
well, but I'm certain it will be a whole lot worse with a CFL.
A more serious use of incandescent light bulbs is their use to warm eggs
CE Mark28 Dec 2007 23:08 GMT4
Perhaps contacting one of the EMC Testing labs such as Elite or DLS could
shed some light on CE marking.  I found using the FCC 47 was most helpful
for getting started.  CISPR 22 standard Class A & B for your product design.
After that you might be on safe footing to go onto CE mark ...

Strip lighting bulb doesn't fit?25 Dec 2007 19:33 GMT2
I'm feel a bit embarrassed. For the first time in my life I have to change a
strip lighting bulb and I can't do it. The holes in one socket seem to be
out of alignment with the ones in the opposite.
Is there some trick to this? Am I supposed to twist the thing somehow?
mike lalonde25 Dec 2007 04:08 GMT1
Michael Lalonde got a letter bomb from Karl's mum in Germany during an
important business meeting because he felt like it and went for a long walk
through the park. Then Michael Lalonde ran around like a lunatic, he jumped
out of the way as the roof collapsed and with relative ease ...

Data Center Power Factor25 Dec 2007 02:46 GMT6
Need to figure the power factor for 208v power in our data center.  I
know that 208v power is more efficient than 120v but I want to figure
the power factor in talking with customers.
So here's how we sell it.
Why do they hate the engineering mentality?23 Dec 2007 23:21 GMT18
I was trained as an engineer, which I chose to pursue
mostly because I recognized that I had a "can do"
approach to problems. When other people said
"can't be done" I was optimistic and said it could,
6 Wires in Receptacle Box23 Dec 2007 18:45 GMT7
I have a receptacle box which contains 6 bare ends. Three come in from
the left, and three exit from the right. They are very old, cloth
insulated wire with no coloration (black). I can see that one pair of
them used to have a white coating, and the the line side tests alright
Low voltage in wall switch23 Dec 2007 18:38 GMT9
I started to replace a wall switch with an outlet tonight and when I
measured the voltage, I only got 80 volts. I wondered if it might be a warn
out breaker? I've lived here for 23 years....the breaker is probably 35
years old. I was told that they can get weak if they've been ...
Electical connection of switch with diode indicator23 Dec 2007 02:56 GMT4
I have a switch (european) with four connection points - on one side black &
red and on other side black & blue (marked neutral). Between the last two
connection points is a diode indicator light.
I want to use the switch to connect all my computer perifirals to the wall
ECM (Electronically Commutated Motor) - who sells them, how much?21 Dec 2007 22:06 GMT2
Who sells ECM motors (1/4, 1/3 or 1/2 hp) and how much do they cost -
(over-the-counter) ?
Unless I'm wrong, they seem to only be available as integrated into
HVAC systems (furnaces) and maybe only to HVAC
Anyone remember the forum at the Dilbert website for discussing crazy ideas/concept?21 Dec 2007 06:02 GMT2
I remember a forum that was related to the Dilbert website that discussed
inventions, how to improve products, and crazy concepts.  Some of the posts
were ridiculous while others were quite serious.  Does anyone remember
reading this?  For some reason it was closed down and I'm ...
