Non Switching 220v Power Supply, Used with 110v, how much does current decrease?31 Dec 2005 15:15 GMT2
I was sent a power supply for a unit that requires 9 volts DC with
180ma. The power supply says input 220v AC, not 110-220v,  so I guess
that
means non switching, and is supposed to supply 300ma of current. .    I

Reasons for creating a new newsgroup.  From the posts I have
made to alt.binaries.schematics.electronic , the realization

are large and have been posted, but I can not u/l large files,

Recently, I installed a regular light switch with a slide dimmer next to it
for my bathroom light (inexpensive 3 40-watt bulbs on a metal box), so when
I get up in the night, I can turn the light on and see, without frying my

loWatt & Motn Dtxr29 Dec 2005 00:36 GMT2
A few months ago I put an LED bulb in a socket connected to a
motion detector switch and it never went off. Now I put a very low
Watt bulb on it and it does shut off, but not as often. Just now I
walked under the bulb and it seemed dim then when I walked near the
Commercial mains wiring: 12ga wire for 30 amp load?28 Dec 2005 14:41 GMT33
NEC reference says that 12ga THHN wire can carry 30A max
current. Motor load is currently drawing constant 20A (230v
1ph circuit). Breaker is 30A.
(A bit of history: Previous motor (running from 208v) was

driving an inductive load with a relay28 Dec 2005 06:39 GMT10
i am driving a inductive load (2 mH) with steady state of 10 amps  with
30 amp relay at 12 Volts DC.  no flyback diodes or any other supression
of the inductive kickback
i also have a 100nf capacitor from the contract of the relay to ground.
Is Time The Imaginary Number28 Dec 2005 06:06 GMT5
In several scientific disciplines that involve mathematics an imaginary
number is used in the calculations to make the numbers come out right. That
should mean that there really is something acting on the physical world that
is represented by that imaginary number, since it makes ...
Induction melting of steel - melting time calculation25 Dec 2005 01:30 GMT3
We're trying to size a small induction melting furnace (similar to those
used in the jewelry making industry) for our application and I was wondering
if anyone with some experience in this subject can help answer the following
question:
How good is ETL safety certification?25 Dec 2005 00:50 GMT31
I see appliances being sold now that lack UL or CSA approval markings
and instead are only ETL certified.
How good is ETL certification compared to those from UL and CSA?
Does ETL require actual sample products to be submitted for testing, or

After a recent break in the electricity supply to the entire street, my

meter accuracy with half wave loads24 Dec 2005 06:48 GMT29
I wonder how accurately my meter (rotating disk type) reads loads that are
half wave due to a diode. I have some heating equipment that derives its low
mode by incorporating a diode.
Thanks, John
