3 phase power12 Jan 2005 04:30 GMT17
3 phase commerical power, mfg plants etc.  either 480 or 240 when
reading line voltage between phase should be very close correct?
What tolerence would you expect?
I just left a place 2 legs are 241 and one leg is 203 measured between
Starting Again12 Jan 2005 02:33 GMT10
I am trying to get back into electric engineering again, I had some
schooling years back.  I don't have the benefit of going back to school
right now, so I want to do it myself.
I would like to know if, assuming I have access to my own lab equipment,
upgrade to code compliance dilemma12 Jan 2005 00:23 GMT22
This is a hypothetical dilemma I am describing.  But there have been cases
of things like this.  And I am afraid the effect of compliance with the code
ends up leaving people in conditions of greater hazard and prevents them from
reducing their hazard.  In summary, what I see ...
CALCULATION OF EARTH RESISTANCE IN MULTI-LAYER EARTH STRUCTURE.12 Jan 2005 00:07 GMT1
I am  PhD student  and I  doing some work on grounding resistance and I
would like to develop a formula for CALCULATION OF EARTH RESISTANCE IN
MULTI-LAYER EARTH STRUCTURE. and compare it with some field
measuremnts...What do you think? Is it possible to develop such this

Pat Testing question?11 Jan 2005 17:14 GMT5
Does anyone have any information on the legal requirements to pat test, such
as what qualifications are needed if any?
if the pat tester machine has to be calibrated or not? and do you have to
have public liability insurance.Answers to any of these questions or

12vdc 4.5amp QUESTION10 Jan 2005 12:52 GMT18
I have a small fan that is used to exhaust air from a work station. It runs
on 12v DC 4.5 amps.
I was told that there are four ways to effectively power this fan on
household current, and do so safely.
Why NiCads over NiMHs?09 Jan 2005 09:55 GMT29
Reading a previous post, I saw recommendations to use NiCads to power a
drill. Wondering why you would ever use NiCad instead of NiMH. I
thought the only difference was that NiCad has the memory problem and
is toxic?
Pub Lighting Circuits09 Jan 2005 02:30 GMT18
I own a pub and am currently spending a fortune on replacing blown bulbs
varying from 40W spots to normal 60W bulbs and also energy savers too.  They
seem to blow at random thoughout the pub (which has 3 separate circuit
boards) and the wiring seems old.  Any ideas as to why they ...
Deciphering the letters on a fuse.08 Jan 2005 10:59 GMT2
After removing the burned fuse from my DVD player I noticed it is
marked "T1.6AL/250V"
Well, I can understand that the 250V is the voltage, I assume the 1.6A
stands for 1.6 Amps. But what is the initial "T" stands for? (Speed?)
GFCI Lab Tests (revised)08 Jan 2005 10:36 GMT6
my query is:  will a dirty stinking, filthy, diseased ridden, useless
nyc sewer rat, survive the trip.
if not: that maybe too much of a shock to bare.,  as someone pointed out
in an earlier post.

is this safe?07 Jan 2005 21:37 GMT6
My company has installed a new water heater over our sink (to make tea).
However, there is a metal switched fused spur directly over the sink which
feeds the boiler. I thought these had to be a certain distance away from
people using sinks? Is this safe?

I'm going to embarrass myself now.
I've been thinking about a problem too much, and now can't see the wood for
the trees.
