fluorescent lamps29 Jun 2004 13:38 GMT5
I know it is bad to put a fluorescent lamp in a dimmer socket.
My question is will it shorten the life of a lamp to put a fluorescent bulb
in a lamp with a 3 position switch?
I suspect that it does because the one I have tried in a desk lamp's life
Adding dual-voltage to an SPS?29 Jun 2004 06:02 GMT4
I've got a battery charger for a power tool. Input voltage is spec'd at only
120 VAC.
Is it reasonable to think about modifying the switching p.s. to encompass 240
VAC as well? Or might one simply design an entire new one more easily (not
Voltage regulated neutral28 Jun 2004 23:10 GMT6
I have an idea but I don't know if it would work:
Assume I have a conventional 120-0-120V system but only the two live
wires are present. To get a neutral I put a center tapped
autotransformer between the wires.

Is it my motor or Run / Start capacitor ?28 Jun 2004 05:52 GMT6
I have a 5 hp 230 V AC motor on a 20 gal tank /air compressor.
When given to me by the past owner, he said it needs a new electric motor.
Since I do not have a 240 line outlet in my home, as yet anyway. I plugged
this 230 v AC motor into a 120 V ac outlet, just to see what it will ...
Where to find Alternator for Wind Turbine?28 Jun 2004 03:46 GMT2
I am building a wind turbine powered by rotating blades although
having a different configuration.  The diameter of the unit is about
20 feet.  Depending upon wind I am expecting 500 Watts to about
4 kW.

Ballpark cost for straight-forward CE Mark?27 Jun 2004 07:13 GMT26
I've developed a niche product for hobbyists that I'd like to sell in the
UK/Europe.
It is a home audio product, running at 9V DC, 500mA supplied by a CE-marked
wall wart. I understand the product must comply with EN 55013 and EN 55020.

building my own welder27 Jun 2004 03:43 GMT16
Actually, I have no plans to build it.  I'm just curious what one would
have to do to build one.
Obviously, I need a lot of amps.  But how many do I really need?
What voltage would I need as a minimum?
Help with wiring multiple switches!27 Jun 2004 03:12 GMT7
Help! I wanted to change a three switch box to a four switch box. I've

make them work properly.
