Dear Reader:
I am currently looking for entry level electrical engineer
opportunities.  I am a recent graduate in Master of Electrical

breaker panels need to be vertical?28 Aug 2003 19:25 GMT1
I enclosed some space under my house.  Because of the flood zone I'm in, I'm
not allowed to put electrical supplies below the flood line.  This means
that I have to keep the outlets at about the bottom of the above floor
joists.  (Which is only about 6'6" from the 'basement' floor.) ...
When to Island?26 Aug 2003 03:07 GMT2
Recently, there has been discussion on when a generation source should
island iteslf from the grid.  So far, there seem to be two schools of
thought, and the two camps seem to be fairly adament about their
positions.  I was wondering whether there might be some thoughts from
The American electrical system26 Aug 2003 01:12 GMT44
Even though I'm thoughroly familiar with the typical 200 amp electrical
service we use in American homes, I've often wondered what kind of
electrical services exist in other parts of the world. As most of you
probably know, the US uses 120v 60 cycle for the regular plug loads (i.e.
Protective Relays: Application Guide23 Aug 2003 02:12 GMT5
I was just wondering if anyone knew if this:
GEC Alstom T&D, Protective Relays: Application Guide, 3rd ed., Stafford, UK, 1987.

If not, is there anything comparable that I can download somewhere?
Is UL2601 Applicable?21 Aug 2003 06:37 GMT2
I work for a Midwest hospital that is implementing an electronic
medical record.  We are planning to roll-out wireless carts to our
nurse units.  (The wireless cart will be a thin client device, with
flat panel monitor mounted onto it with wireless NIC.)  We anticipate
NEC question21 Aug 2003 00:12 GMT1

Converting from 60A to 100A20 Aug 2003 02:04 GMT1
Can anyone tell me how many watts a 100A home service panel provide?  I do
not want to exceed the maximum allowable load.

Non-contact AC current sense 20 Aug 2003 00:04 GMT6
I am looking for an inexpensive (<$15 ea in 100qty) method to detect the
presence of line AC in a single, large gauge wire and close a small

criteria apply:
Building a woodshop, and have Power Questions.19 Aug 2003 21:46 GMT3
I am building a woodshop in a 2 car detached garage.  I think i have 1 115V
circuit into it from the house.  I would like to have at least one,
preferrably 2, more circuits running into the garage.  I would hate to trip
a breaker with my circular saw and have the lights shut off.
Light Emitting Resistor19 Aug 2003 16:05 GMT3
Just found this in the Akron Beacon Journal (OHIO)
Two questions:  What is a light emitting resistor?
Is it simular to a SED?   ;-)

Questions about 2 to 3 prong installations19 Aug 2003 06:16 GMT2
I have an old house (about 60 years) and a few of my plugs are still the old
2 prong.  I'm about to replace them with 3 prong outlets, and I have a
question or three.
What's a good and sure way to ensure I have a good ground with the conduit
Emergency Backup Question19 Aug 2003 05:27 GMT1
Would a 700 watt inverter be a good idea for running a gas furnace from
car in an emergency?
The furnace has a .25 hp motor and would only need this in the winter,
although we have not had a problem in about 5 years.
