| Amateur questions - how to reduce DC amps ? Auto shut off? | 30 Jul 2008 17:53 GMT | 21 |
1. Can someone explain, (in simple language, I basically know little more than the names of various components) how to reduce DC amps? I want to heat a container of water in an automotive use. I have one of those cheap "heating coils" that you plug into the cigarette

Here in the UK we get a few days were we wish we had air conditioning, but no where near enough to justify the cost, I do however have various vents around the house, and feel I ought to have some more.

Hey there - I typically use Advanced Circuits or Sunstone Circuits for my PCB manufacturing. Their prices are decent and their turn around time is good. Anyways - they both have very limited capabilities. For fancier stuff

| gate drive resistors with schottky diodes | 30 Jul 2008 03:04 GMT | 1 |
I am using the TC4452 fet driver IC, to drive two mosfet gates, with separate gate resistors. Is it a good idea to put a Schottky diode across the gate resistors to speed up the fet turn off times, or can this cause gate voltage oscillations? The switching speed is 100kHz

| induction motor vs "universal" motor - damaged by low voltage? | 30 Jul 2008 02:55 GMT | 14 |
I recently had a good quality corded drill fail after less than 4 years (see link for pictures/details). I just read that running such tools with very long or thin extension cords can make them fail, due to the voltage drop in the extension cord causing the motor to draw

| Does reactance of dipole depend on diameter ?? | 29 Jul 2008 17:13 GMT | 15 |
I wish to know if the reactance of a dipole that is physically 0.5000 wavelengths in length depends on the diameter of the wire or not. I know a dipole 0.5 wavelength long is not resonate, but inductive so you need to shorten it a few percent to bring it to resonance. I know
