Cost of Network of Charging Stations v Electrified Highway System31 Dec 2008 21:12 GMT3
The 100% increase in mpg from going hybrid-electric isn't going to
make up for a 700% increase in fuel costs.
The only way to maintain any semblance of a lifestyle is to power
hybrid electric off the grid as much as possible and just use fuel
Selenium Wire or Foil for Photoconductivity Demonstration31 Dec 2008 16:54 GMT6
or I guess "bars" od selenium would be ok.  I want to reconstruct
Willoughby's discovery of photoconductivity for a science demo.  Any
body in this group know where to purchase small amounts of selenium?
Yes I know it is a hazardous material and promise to be careful.
confusion on diode polarity31 Dec 2008 15:14 GMT25
I'm trying to make a basic circuit with a diode. Had it not been
marked "cathode/anode" I would have not been confused - I would've
just had the electrons follow the arrow. But the arrow points away
from the anode and towards the cathode, and this is the opposite of
Electron gun31 Dec 2008 00:32 GMT2
An electron gun is a part of cathode ray tube on increasing the
filament current the rate of emission of electrons from the cathode
will increase. on the other hand, by increasing the accelerating
potential on anode, the energy of electrons reaching the anode will
Electrify I-40, I-95 and I-530 Dec 2008 21:18 GMT185
When you are off these interstates you run your hybrid electric or EV
on gas or batteries respectively and when you are on these interstates
you run off the grid.
Conventional drive trains could be used along side the newer until it
QUESTION: What is a "locally active resistor"?30 Dec 2008 16:37 GMT3
I came across the article on "Chua's circuit" in Wikipedia (at ). This
circuit "exhibits classic chaos theory behavior" even though it is
composed only of "standard components" (resistors, capacitors,
inductors).
Transformer winding insulation30 Dec 2008 15:50 GMT20
Am I correct in that the winding wire in a transformer is coated with a
varnish that acts as an insulator? I've tried to find an answer to this by
researching transformer construction, but haven't been able to get anything
definitive. If this is so, then I would think that ...
Blinking DC Christmas Lights30 Dec 2008 15:49 GMT10
I bought a string of 10 DC, c-battery, power lights. Is there some device
that can be connected into it to make the lights blink on and off?

How you can save fuel and the environment30 Dec 2008 04:09 GMT9
Driving and Car Maintenance Transportation accounts for 66% of U.S.
oil use -mainly in the form of gasoline. Luckily, there are plenty of
ways to improve gas mileage.
Driving Tips:- Idling gets you 0 miles per gallon. The best way to
Frequency of Train Traffic v Interstate Traffic30 Dec 2008 01:07 GMT3
The most heavily traveled rail lines are occupied by rolling rolling
stock only 5% of the time.
For most interstate traffic, at least near most cities, it's at least
twice - 3X as high.

Fluorescent heating29 Dec 2008 22:09 GMT41
Most fluorescent lamps emit light in visible range. Is it possible to
build a fluorescent lamp that emits light in the thermal infrared
range? This would be thermal fluorescence and could be used as heat
lamps. Has such a fluorescent heat lamp ever been built?

A North American (USA) electrical code question29 Dec 2008 21:30 GMT4
Greetings All,
I've looked thgrough the NEC code book but have been unable to find my
answer there. I'm sure it's there someplace but I can't find it.
