| Music on Hold - 100 Ohm source when PBX expects 600 Ohm? | 15 Jul 2008 11:41 GMT | 8 |
Would this work where the source is of lower impedance than what the pbx expects? Thanks.

| SMPS blown up - any ideas why? | 15 Jul 2008 11:35 GMT | 4 |
I'm in the UK on nominal 240V mains - actually about 245V I've got some computers run from 12V switch mode power supplies (look like laptop power supplies but slightly higher current rating than my laptop at least). Today I was doing some fiddling which involved

| Help with Scope & Function Generator Snafu | 15 Jul 2008 00:42 GMT | 5 |
I am trying to do a simple experiment involving an ocilliscope and a function generator in the same circuit. My plane is to have the function generator set to produce a 10V (no load) sine wave an vary the freq from 100-2700 Hz.

| reflected laser light detector circuit | 14 Jul 2008 07:58 GMT | 8 |
I'm trying to make a battery-operated, microcontroller-controlled, short-range, laser range-finder. It needs to be very light (weight-wise). Does anyone know of a reliable method of detecting reflected green laser light from about 50 feet from a grassy surface in an outdoor ...

| LM358A for high-side current sensing | 13 Jul 2008 18:40 GMT | 2 |
I'm using an LM358A for high-side current sensing. I would like to be able to use the other OP in the so-8 package as a thermal shutdown. This means that both outputs would be connected to the same point R9& R8 junction on the schematic. Q1 &Q2 are really a dual prebiased

| Question: capacitors as special use batteries? | 13 Jul 2008 05:16 GMT | 14 |
I recall from my hobbyist days that high-voltage capacitors can keep a charge for a significant amount of time, especially if they are cut- off from the circuit subsequent to charging.

Please have a look at the circuit at: http://www.glacialwanderer.com/_blog/blog2008/04_April/hb_relay5.jpg. It is from the article at http://www.glacialwanderer.com/hobbyrobotics/?p=9. The circuit it to turn on or off a AC bulb by a microcontroller. My

| Help needed designing square wave osc (555) | 12 Jul 2008 20:25 GMT | 14 |
Hi, I've been trying to calculate "standard" values that would make me a 555 R1/R2/C1 square wave oscillator with a 50% duty cycle operating at close to 30Hz. Can someone assist? My numbers come out with "odd" component values.

| Soldering Station | 12 Jul 2008 16:01 GMT | 5 |
I need a new soldering station to replace one I lost during a move. This is for hobby use in microcontrollers and general analog/digital work. Is a Metcal MX-500 a reasonable choice for these applications? I know

| self-energized synchronous rectifer circuit? | 12 Jul 2008 05:23 GMT | 4 |
I've been reading a little about synchronous rectifiers as used in a switching power supply. I've also seen some references to a "self-energized" version of the synchronous rectifier which could be used in small signal rectification applications.

How does this IRF530-based circuit compare with, say, an LM3886? http://www.irf.com/technical-info/appnotes/an-948.pdf I thought this would make a good first project, but if it doesn't sound so great, then why bother...?
