Binary to BCD converter IC?09 Feb 2008 00:52 GMT13
I'm searching for an IC which can convert binary input to BCD code.
I have a TC77 temperature sensor, which provides data to 8-bit shift
register, and finally I have 8 bits in complementary code for negative
temperatures, and straight code for positive temperatures. Let's put
Reduce volume of AC buzzer08 Feb 2008 23:37 GMT12
I've got an old Gralab darkroom timer with a buzzer that is, to my
taste, way too loud. Some Gralabs had a volume adjustment knob, this one
doesn't. I'd like to add one.
The buzzer is labeled:
Hex inverter question08 Feb 2008 22:22 GMT7
I have a chip labeled MC14049U with the Motorola logo that I can't find a
datasheet for (specifically).  The MC14049UB datasheets I find show pin 8 as
Vss.  Does that mean it needs -5V applied to pin 8, like the 74HC4053 chips
I am working with?  Or should pin 8 simply be ground?
2 Transistor AM Radio08 Feb 2008 22:06 GMT19
Not sure if this is the correct place to ask, but here goes... I've
found plans for a simple two transistor AM radio receiver, but I'm not
sure how the ferrite loop antenna is connected to the radio. I'm not
at all good with schematics, I can understand most of it except for

Electronics idiot needs LED replacement help, for a good cause though!08 Feb 2008 13:54 GMT12
I'm in need of bit of help changing a small booklight from operating
with three white LEDs to one yellow or one orange LED bulb.  Assuming,
it can be done, for the moment.
Why you ask.  Because I have a friend who has E.P. (erythropoietic

Battery can't cope with regulator startup?08 Feb 2008 03:14 GMT2
[As I don't trust my ASCII skills, I won't try to draw schematics or
curves here. Images can be viewed here instead:]

A tale of two Dremels08 Feb 2008 01:06 GMT2
I have two Dremel tools. One is a couple decades old and has "solid
state speed control." The other is fairly new.
My old Dremel had much more constant speed under load, at any setting
of the speed control. The newer one, if you set it at a low speed, it
New lamp dimmer application?07 Feb 2008 06:37 GMT24
I was at the hardware store shelling out $20 for an "infinite range
control."  It is a proportioning control for an electric range burner.
It is primitive.  A small 3 W  heating element warms a bimetallic
leaf which moves a set of contacts, which opens the connection to the

The Pioneer Effect and the Unified Field Theory05 Feb 2008 13:06 GMT1
The two Pioneer spacecraft which were launched in the early
seventies,
have both been decelerating at a constant speed as they rise in the
sun's gravitational field (the rate of constant deceleration is
