| why sine waves in power lines and why not square wave! | 01 May 2007 00:52 GMT | 12 |
Why are we using sine wave A.C in power transmission lines? Why shouldn't we use Square wave AC instead of Sine?

| At what frequencies does a ground plane become important?? | 30 Apr 2007 08:43 GMT | 7 |
Would a 555 square wave oscillator running at 30Khz work any better with or without a ground plane? I need the harmonics unhindered.

| Simple circuit to measure baud rate on a serial link | 29 Apr 2007 04:01 GMT | 8 |
I'd like to be able to measure the baud rate that a couple of sealed devices are using to talk to each other over a serial (RS232) cable. I know that they only use the common baud rates 9600, 19200, etc. Can anybody give me some pointers on a circuit I could build that I could

| Help - I need a design for a 6 volt, 700 mAmp dc power supply | 29 Apr 2007 02:18 GMT | 4 |
I want to build a sturdy, portable dc power supply to plug into my MP3 player that has issues with charging its internal battery. It works just fine with the AC/DC adapter but want my player to be "portable" again.

| Soldering tiny (e.g. PLCC, LFCSP, CLCC) ICs | 28 Apr 2007 22:19 GMT | 9 |
What do hobbyists do if the IC they want is only available in a tiny 5mm-on-a-side format, like CLCC? (I'm thinking, specifically, of an accelerometer made by Analog Devices.) Are there snap-in adapters out there that would give me a more PDIP-like pin-out? I have seen

i am needing to measure the angle of an arm. I would like the readout to be very accurate to .001 degrees. Has this been done. I thought of measuring the optical pulses through a digital encoder like used in a digital mouse. thanks in advance for the help.

| feesible idea for soldering ic's? | 28 Apr 2007 07:52 GMT | 21 |
Teds post gave me an idea to solder in smt ic's using an idea similar to welding. Would it be possible to use a low voltage high current source to melt pre-tinned pads to the ic? The idea might be something like sticking a conductive bar over the pins of

| LM386 (audio amp) oscillates | 27 Apr 2007 20:20 GMT | 13 |
I have a LM386 that oscillates when the volume is turned up too far. It's operating with the default gain of 20 and there is a RC on the output as recommended in the app notes (10 ohms in series with .05uF). The oscillations will stop if I add a .05 cap across the input pot,
