| Making an ink-level sensor for an inkjet printer | 31 Aug 2006 19:12 GMT | 25 |
After refilling one of the Canon inkjets with the newer chipped carts (ip4200, etc), one loses the ability to monitor the ink levels using the printer's cirquitry and software. This is unfortunate. It occurred to me that it would be quite easy to make a low-cost

| PC component identification - major newbie... | 31 Aug 2006 07:47 GMT | 3 |
So, I'm trying to ID the components on the board of my cars cruise control board (it's broken). Now some I know, like a component with "R43" next to it is a resistor, or "C12" is a capacitor, "Q16" is a transistor, and "D1" is a diode. But here are a few I don't know and

| Voltmeter Question !!!! | 31 Aug 2006 05:03 GMT | 10 |
Hello again, I have a vary basic voltmeter (mastech M-830B) and I have a question about the AC measurement setting. I know that when you use it to measure an AC wave form (sine wave) it shows you the RMS value, what I

| where to find multimeter probe for connecting to male DB connectors? | 31 Aug 2006 02:00 GMT | 3 |
I want to test the pin-to-pin connections on cables and am using a multimeter in impedance mode to test cable pin outs. I have alligator, banana and standard probes but the problem with them is that they touch adjacent pins and are ackward to work with. I once saw a probe that ...

| Could someone please explain this? | 30 Aug 2006 15:21 GMT | 2 |
I'm writing a program that interfaces with a device on the serial port and in the documentation it says the folowing: 3.1.1. Header:Code. The Header:Code combination is configured thus:

| waveform generator | 30 Aug 2006 14:23 GMT | 25 |
I am playing around with the idea of building a budget waveform generator at present. Ideally I would like 3 types of basic waveform: sqaure sine and triangle. I would also like the ability to make such waveforms asymmetrical, with its symmetry adjustable by a pot.

| Capacitor Dielectric Material? | 30 Aug 2006 11:13 GMT | 18 |
I have a question (mainly of academic interest) about capacitors. I read in my physics text book that polar substances such as water have a much higher dielectric constant (K) than vacuum because the polar molecules align so as to negate the voltage across the plates.

| Scope GPIB stuff | 29 Aug 2006 22:17 GMT | 7 |
I have a Gould OS4020 digital storage scope which is fitted with a GPIB interface. I also have a 'Brain Boxes' brand GPIB translator thingy that, I think, talks to centronics and RS232 ports. And a small laptop with parallel and serial ports.
