Generator Hookup11 Mar 2010 18:35 GMT39
The electric service goes to the house, but I want to run the generator in
the barn.  So far I know,
* there are 3 unused #10 wires buried between the house and the barn.
* the electric to the barn comes from the house in 2 buried #000 cables.

Was Runaway Prius Really A Runaway?  Or Just A Prank?11 Mar 2010 23:09 GMT12
A few years ago I was looking at a minivan with defective ABS and I
turned to an astute ex used car dealer and said incredulously,
"there's no way a big auto company would design a car without any back
up brake system . . ."

CFL on photo on/off?12 Mar 2010 00:26 GMT2
What is the problem with operating a CFL on a dusk to dawn device that
uses a photo sensor? Does it suffer the same fate as running the CFL
on a dimmer that is full on? That's my guess.  My motion sensor
security light has an option to turn the lamps on manually and shut
Need a sound recorder, what should I get?12 Mar 2010 00:19 GMT24

Is it ok to solder the tips of stranded wire before inserting into a

I like soldering the tips so that there's no wire fraying or free
strands.
Quad LVDS to LVPECL?12 Mar 2010 01:12 GMT5
Does such a chip exist?  I can't find it.

MC10H352-D = Quad CMOS to PECL
Let's design a fake Perpetual Motion machine12 Mar 2010 00:53 GMT1
I was thinking about all the fringe-science "Magnet Motors" and found
myself reasoning thus:  suppose there's a way to power a flywheel by
slowly demagnetizing some permanent magnets.  Wipe out the magnets'
stored energy, and inject it as KE into the flywheel.   If possible,

uP/uC Floating Pins?12 Mar 2010 00:04 GMT16
When a uP or uC is exercising its POR cycle, what are the states of
the output pins?  Floating, or held low, or what?
Particularly if it's recovering from a brown-out that caused POR to be
exerted.

Elementary question - what makes the current flow?12 Mar 2010 01:12 GMT47

it does happen, but why does the current flow in the first place?
I used to think that it was electrostatic pressure caused by all
the electrons being bunched up against each other and so

I plugged our vacuum in to the GFI in the kitchen, and when I turned
it on, I heard a "pop" and assumed it was the GFI that needed to be
reset for some reason. Well, the GFI plug was acting completely dead.
I pulled it out of the wall, pulled off the line wires and tested them
