This explains why I could not figure out how to interpret the serial number.
Unfortunately I could not find any 3510A manuals either.
Back to the drawing board ...

Hi,
That manual is suitable. If you look at the back you will find the table
that shows how to backdate it. See p137 rhs column. the serial number
sequence is there - Changes 1, 3-4
Those changes are to part values only, so the general schematics are the
same, probably changes due to obsolescence

My A1 board i physically very different from the layout in the inrush
section
with K1 and K2. The schematic seems to be the same but I can't find
my problem, so my thinking is that I am physically not measuring what
want to measure.
It behaves as if K1 is NOT connecting the inrush limiting resistors at turn
on, but I "know" they are in the circuit.

I hope you understood that you're looking for a HP6032A manual for
serial prefix, not just a 3510A manual.
I found a manual at agilent.com for a 6032 with serial number above
US38321026, so it looks like Agilent may have changed their serial
number practice. Offhand, however, I'm guessing that the first 4
digits still have the same meaning, so this would be a manual for
models made starting in early 1998.

Looking at the back of that manual, I see that it has backdating info
for the 3510A, which is only 3 changes. The changes consist of one
resistor value and a couple of diode part # changes. So this should be
a good manual for you.
It may seem annoying, but HP/Agilent had a philosophy of constant
striving for improvements, so they often sold their products under the
same model number for many years, while occasionally changing the
internal design, and the serial prefix. HP is one of the few cases I
can think of where a later revision of a design is always going to be
better. They were never into revamping a design just to make it
cheaper and save money.
Bill & Dave ran a great show, and they're probably turning over in
their graves considering what's being done under their names today.

I did misunderstand at first, and looked for a 3510A manual.
Obviously without any success.
Strangely enough the manual that you link to in your post
has the exact same Agilent Part No as the one I have,
printed in september 2000, etc.
And it is identical to my copy of the "same" manual... ALMOST.
The component location pages differ, and the pages in YOUR manual
correspond to what I have in my power supply.
I have found the problem in my current inrush limit circuitry.
The explanation is at least as strange as the manual issue above.
The cable from the front panel power switch was incorrectly connected
to the circuit board, from the factory. It has never worked as it should.
I obviously looked for a failure, and not this kind of problem,
and this took some time to figure out. I first believed that my measurement
results were caused by incorrect thinking in combination with the wrong
component
location diagram.
Thanks for valuable input, and a link to the correct service manual.
I do believe however that my manual originally comes from the same place as
yours.
