Electronics Forum / Components / August 2008Looking for Cherry "G" series keyboard keyswithces
Can someone point me to a source for some Cherry "G: series keyboard keyswitches? All I can find at Cherry's site are their current MX1 series. These are the older and bigger style keyswitches that were used in most keyboards from about mid 70's to near 1990. They are 17mm from bottom of plastic to bottom of mounting ring and are 14.5mm on a side and are 30mm from tip of actuator shaft to bottom of plastic. They are pc board mount. The actuator shaft is 3 legged or "T" shaped where the keytop goes into it. I have tried the obvious places like Jameco, Digikey, Allied, and Mouser. I have an ancient Cherry keyboard that I picked up as surplus back in the 80s (latest date codes on the TTLs are 1979) that I'll never use as a keyboard as such but the key switches are great for, well, switches. The dimensions you show are about right, except the footprint is rectangular, not 14.5 square. I can probably spare a few but let me pop one out tomorrow night and do a dimensioned drawing for you to compare with what you have there. And here's the link: http://img384.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cherryswitchdj8.png It did get a little uglified in the transition from DWG -> Corel -> PNG but it should be recognizable. SignatureRich Webb Norfolk, VA Yes that does look like the item. The only thing different would be the little uprights on top of the mounting flange but those will just help keep the keytop straight.
