Hi,

Has anyone here any experiences to share about the Electra shape-based
autorouter ( http://www.connecteda.com)?

It seems very reasonably priced and is apparently written by some of the
Spectra team...

No comments about how cr*p all autorouters are etc. and how everything
should be done manually please ;-)

Thanks

Mike

Yes, it is written by someone who worked on Specctra.

I've got it (supplied with the PCB software I use), and I'm impressed. It's
very fast, generally routes to completion or pretty close to it, and the
results look quite neat.

Use Google to search groups. I remember one poster in a Cadsoft Eagle
group suggesting to include the Electra with Eagle.

Ok, ok. I don't like autorouters, mainly because they tend to mess up
EMI and analog stuff. But if all critical paths are hand-routed and the
autorouter is then let out of the gate it can do a neat job. I have only
seen Specctra. That one was pretty good.

If you want to have a look at it for free visit the Vutrax site
   http://wwww.vutrax.co.uk
and download the Windows evaluation issue of Vutrax.
Then follow the Electra links or go straight to
    http://www.vutrax.co.uk/electra.htm
for the instructions and download of the interface module and
the router itself. With these you get a fully functional
version of Electra for 30 days (but limited to 256 pins
by the indefinite Vutrax free issue unless you are already
a licensed Vutrax user).

OK we are biased .. we think Electra is really rather good.
At a tiny fraction of the price of the Specctra router
it is an excellent buy if  you have complex layouts to do.
Some professionals use autorouters for helping to determine
a good component layout even if they route the whole thing
manually for the final product.
