I'd like a 3-4' audio cord between my headset and PC. Anyone know where I
can find one. Most at 6'. 1/8" dia.

When I ran into this problem, I bought some wire, plugs, and jacks from
Radio Shack and soldered up my own to the custom length I wanted.
you could also cut a piece out of a premade one and solder the wires
back together,
but the wire in the premade ones often does not solder easily.

I may need to do that. Of course, RS will put a preminum on each of those parts.

I tend to compromise, buy cheap cables (I buy them at the drugstore
where they are even cheaper than at Radio Shack), cut them to use
the ends, and then solder new conenctions to the cut ends. That
way there's no bare connections in the middle of the cable that
need insulating (electrical tape works, but it has a tendency
to eventually come off).
And those cheap cables use moulded connectors, so there's no
way to get the connector apart to solder the wires directly.

with a sharp knife and pliers they come apart ok, they just don't
go back together so well. A few layers of heatshrink can make a
workable plug body, but it may be cheaper to buy a plug.

You could salvage some miniature co-ax from the video lead from a scrap
monitor. Thats about 2mm dia, but you would need two runs for stereo.
Maplin do the plugs and sockets.

Why not just bunch up the first 2' of cord? Just loop it over your thumb
and little finger, maybe in a figure-8, and wrap a couple of rubber bands
around it?
Good Luck!
