Hello,

Sorry if this sounds like a simple stupid question.

How do I charge a Sub-C Battery?

Do I need a special battery charger, or will most normal battery
chargers charge a Sub-C Battery?

It's for a device that is used to start a nitro radio control car.

Thanks.

Josh.

**  Most will not accept a sub-C cell.

Only the usual dry cell sizes  -   ie AAA, AA, C, D ....

> It's for a device that is used to start a nitro radio control car.

** A simple glo-plug driver  ?

Used that method for many years with various model racing boats ( 2 and 4
stroke) employing glo-plug motors.

You can use a 12 volt automotive lamp wired in series with a single Ni-Cd
cell ( or several) - maybe 10 or 12 watt rated  - like the tubular shaped
ones used in overhead lights.

Used with a 12 volt SLA or wet cell, for you starter motor,  the 12 volt
bulb will limit charging current to a safe level -  the sub-C should be
fully charged (warm to the touch) in about an hour and a half.

BTW

I always found Sanyo red sub- C cells to be the best.

1200, 1400 & 1800 mAh sizes.

After you read the whole post, you know the answer.  Yes.

A single sub-C cell sure isn't going to run a 12V electric starter, now
is it?

Irrelevant to the question at hand.

Wouldn't you like to be sure of the battery chemistry and capacity,
before telling the OP how to charge it?

I doubt the OP cares to hear about your anal adventures.  HAND

Nothing this schizophrenic, autistic Fremont c.nt would ever know about.

Still can't grasp proper sentence structure, can you?  There are sub-c
cells that are up to 3500mAh.  How is pumping 1A into one for an hour
and a half going to charge it up?

Idiot savant.

Like the Rain Man.  He somehow (in an ingenious and almost magical way)
knows the answer to a specific class of questions, but virtually nothing
else.

Kind of like "Even a blind pig finds an acorn once in a while"?
BTW, I am familiar with the term "Savant", but I have a hard time seeing
how it can apply to Phil. :(

"How much is a Milky Way Bar?"
"About a hundred dollars."

There's some TeeVee show on lately, called "NUMB3RS", (I presume it's
supposed to be pronounced, "numbers", but all I can get my little
reading homunculus to say is "numb-threes" or "numb-threesers"), which
disgusts me, but there's nothing else on TeeVee in that time slot but the
Nooz and evening soaps, so I sit through it.

One of the first eps had some kid saying something like "I can read
20,000 words a minute, and quote pi to 147,000 decimal places (or some
such - maybe multiply 6-digit numbers on the fly, whatever) - does that
make me a genius?" and all of the other characters go "OOh! Awe!" or so.

My response, which, unfortunately, the TV can't hear, was, "No, that
makes you a savant."

Cheers!

scrawled out nothing worth repeating

The question was: "There are sub-c cells that are up to 3500mAh.  How is
pumping 1A into one for an hour and a half going to charge it up?"

Are you going to answer the question, or are you going to persist in
your spastic fits?

Now, don't be giving away your title, Phil. Its your most prized

s/its/it's/ - yes, in this case an apostrophe is appropriate, since "it's"
in this context is the contraction for "it is."

No Offense intended, Michael A. Terrell, it's just my job[1], and it's
just a typo anyway, right? :-)

And, of course, since I'm only critiquing the absense of an appropriate
apostrophe, which pains me, because usually it's the other way around,
I'll have to post another response from one of my other homunculi to
actually critique the _content_ of your post.

Signs are, most of Rich votes in favor, at least from Rich The Stoner's
POV. ;-)

Cheers!

The only stupid question is the one that's not asked. :-)

It depends. If it's an ordinary 1.2V NiCd, then I'd think that almost
any NiCd charger that's sized for the AH rate would work. Same with
NiMH, but they're a little more touchy about being charged. What "kind"
of battery is it, in other words?

And, what's a sub-C anyway?

Thanks,
Rich

assuming 1.2V NiCd or NiMH

If they'll charge single cells (many chargers only do pairs) and and you
can get the sub-c into the compartment and into contact with the terminals
that's all that's needed.

sticking a wad of al-foil or similar lump of metal under the base of the
cell to increase its length may help.

Bye.

Sub C is shorter than standard C cell.  You can use a "AA" charger,
just connect the batteries with alligator clips and a rubber band
around the cells.  Most chargers need to charge two cells at once.
Make sure you use the same mAh rating on both bats
